Purpose
"U-SNAP-BAC, Incorporated is a consortium of community and business organizations, working together to empower residents to impact the future of Detroit's Eastside. Through coalition building, resource development, joint planning and programming, we will promote economic growth and neighborhood improvement."

United Streets Networking and Planning: Building a Community (U-SNAP-BAC) was incorporated in 1987 by a consortium of seven neighborhood organizations and four business associations to revitalize Detroit's east side. Its board is derived from representatives from its member organizations. The organizing membership in the consortium included: the Balfour Buckingham Nottingham Block Club, Chalmers Block Club, Chandler Park Neighborhood Association, Civic Center East Business Association, Mack Avenue Beautification Association, Mack Avenue Renaissance Alliance, Neighbors United, People Lending United Support, Southeastern Community Association, The Seca Merchants, and the Warren Conner Development Coalition.
Now in 2010 Our Board of Directors is comprised of the following community organizations and business groups:

New Construction For-Sale Homes in the MorningSide Commons Area-
U-SNAP-BAC has redeveloped a subsection of Detroit's far-eastside in the MorningSide Community, deemed the MorningSide Commons. The MorningSide Commons area that U-SNAP-BAC is currently developing is located on between East Warren and Mack Avenue on Alter Road, Wayburn, and Maryland streets. Homeownership Education-
U-SNAP-BAC provides training for potential homeowners to prepare for their first home buying experience. When becoming a first-time homebuyer, potential homeowners should be educated about the ins-and-outs of homeownership including: how to qualify for a mortgage, what is predatory lending, how to read a credit report, how to combat identity theft, what does it mean to be financially fit, and how to prevention foreclosure once you have secured your own home. Owner Occupied Rehabilitation -
U-SNAP-BAC provides support for rehabilitation of owner occupied homes in the U-SNAP-BAC development area. Residents can apply for rehabilitation of their homes. Rehab services are limited by available funds. Contact our office at 313.640.1100 for more information.

Commercial Revitalization
Assist the community in developing a common vision and strategy
Help to make the commercial district clean and safe
Promote the district and its businesses among potential customers with a festival, retail events and marketing
Improve the appearance of the district's buildings, businesses and signs using the façade grant program and design standards
Assist the businesses by providing information on the capital assistance program
Work to create and execute redevelopment opportunity
